FRANCIONI MASTROMARINO
Genesis of the Giant Genie
The portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci, icon and contemporary art
Steel armor, tons of clay and months of work, Leonardo's face comes to life.
Leonardo da Vinci, the symbol
The sculpture of Leonardo Da Vinci's senile face has been an object of study for us for many years.
Inspired by his famous self-portrait, we created his three-dimensional image through clay modeling, an icon that brings contemporary art closer to the general public.
Trying to grasp, in addition to the somatic features, also the nature of the Artist and the Genius, we soon realized that the figure would become the symbol from which to start our desire to "work big". His image, a global and timeless icon, has made us known as the authors of gigantism through the largest representation of his face in the world.
In 2019, during the celebrations of the five hundredth anniversary of the death of Da VInci, our Big Leo, in his 5 meters of height, traveled in Tuscany and Lombardy, finally arriving in Pavia in 2021 at the Riso Scotti company.

Our research
Our decades of research, based on the use of increasingly eco-sustainable materials, has led us to create works with a reduced environmental impact.
Thanks to the placement of the large sculpture depicting the face of Leonardo da Vinci at the Riso Scotti company in Pavia, an important collaboration was born which allowed us to experiment with waste materials from rice processing.

Knowledge, culture and travel accompanied the Genius throughout his life and were a source of inspiration. Leonardo's library is estimated to consist of 200 volumes, so many books that he carried with him until his death in France. As Newton wrote centuries later, "If I have been able to see further than others, it is because I stood on the shoulders of giants." Today's discoveries are the result of the mistakes and successes of the past. This is our book sculpture of passed down knowledge.

Different sizes and materials, the study on Leonardo continues...
There are two large sculptures created on Leonardo da Vinci.
The first, in steel and hydro-resin, approximately 3 meters high, was presented for the first time in 2014 at Palazzo Mediceo in Seravezza (LU) on the front lawn. It was subsequently exhibited inside the Horticultural Garden of Florence for "ArtGarden" and the following year found a permanent location at the "Bosco d'Arte" Bandinelli in Greve in Chianti (FI).
The second, made of hydroresin and over 4 meters high, in 2019 took part in the urban exhibition of the Municipality of Pontedera (PI) Art for not sleeping - Moti dell'anima - Tributo a Leonardo, curated by Alberto Bartalini. Also in 2019 the sculpture was exhibited at the Palazzo Medici in Seravezza for Cibart and finally in Piazza del Municipio in Pavia for the Looking for Monna Lisa exhibition which ended in June 2020 with a catalog edited by Valerio Dheò. The work was acquired in 2021 by the Riso Scotti company in Pavia.
In 2019, some small works, again portraying the face of Leonardo Da Vinci, are exhibited in the collective "Musiva Week", at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, Galleria delle Carrozze - Florence
